SEAFDEC Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center
The Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC) arranged the Webinar on Fisheries Subsidies: Southeast Asian Region Perspective on 23-24 September 2020 with the support of the Japanese Trust Fund (JTF). This webinar gathers resource speakers from international organizations which include the representative from the World Trade Organization (WTO), FAO Headquarter, International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), and Fisheries Agency of Japan.
In the Open Session on 23 September 2020, the webinar was aimed at sharing of information and experiences on fisheries subsidies agreement of WTO for better understanding of the negotiation agenda on fisheries subsidies. More than 90 personalities from international, regional, and national fisheries agencies were participated.
In the Closed Session on 24 September 2020, the Webinar was aimed at to primarily sharing and discussing along with SEAFDEC Member Countries on the issues and concerns with regard to the legal text for fisheries subsidies agreement of the WTO and also discussed on possibility to come up with a set of recommendations and ASEAN common position on fisheries subsidies.
