SEAFDEC, Singapore fortify cooperation for food security and safety

The Mission from SEAFDEC, led by the Secretary-General Dr. Suttinee Limthammahisorn, together with the Policy and Program Coordinator, Dr. Worawit Wanchana, and Information Program Coordinator, Ms. Nualanong Tongdee, paid a courtesy visit to the SEAFDEC Council Director for Singapore on 25 April 2024. SEAFDEC visited the Aquaculture and Marine Aquaculture Center (MAC) of Singapore which serves as a Collaborating Centre for the SEAFDEC/MFRD Programme. The Director of Aquaculture  Department of the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) and SEAFDEC Alternate Council Director and National Coordinator for Singapore, Dr. Jiang Jun Hui, and Chief of MFRD Mr. Tan Yit Wee, explained the vision and activities of MAC . Subsequently, SEAFDEC also visited the SFA where a discussion was held with the Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Corporate Industry and Technology) and SEAFDEC Council Director for Singapore, Mr. Chan Hian Lim. During the discussion, Mr. Chan emphasized the crucial role of SFA in ensuring food security and safety and addressing issues affecting sustainable food production e.g. climate change focusing on environmental sustainability in food production in Singapore. The discussion was further made on how SFA through MFRD could enhance its contribution to supporting the SEAFDEC Member Countries in the future.
