SEAFDEC participates in the Thirty-sixth APFIC

SEAFDEC was invited to join the 36th Session of the FAO Asia-Pacific Fishery Commission (APFIC) which was held virtually on 5–7 May 2021 and hosted by the Government of Thailand. The 36th APFIC was attended by a total of 50 participants who were representatives from the 17 member countries of the Commission, APFIC Secretariat, and partner organizations. This 36th Session of APFIC reported the activities undertaken in response to the recommendations of the 35th Session and updated the work undertaken by APFIC and the APFIC Secretariat during the period 2018–2021.

During the Session, SEAFDEC Secretary-General, Ms. Malinee Smithrithee, expressed her appreciation to FAO for providing the technical assistance and sharing the knowledge to the SEAFDEC Member Countries to address several fisheries issues (i.e. IUU fishing, fisheries subsidies, stock assessment, SSF Guidelines, gender, etc.). In addition, SEAFDEC has been working with FAO for a number of projects funded by the Global Environment Facility that are implemented in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand sub-regions.
