Hosted by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Meeting of Coordinating Working Party (CWP) Task Group on Catch Concept and Fishing Effort was convened on 6 July 2020 through the online platform. Four representatives from SEAFDEC, namely: Ms. Saivason Klinsukhon from the Secretariat as well as Mr. Isara Chanrachkij, Dr. Nopporn Manajit, and Mr. Sukchai Arnupapboon from the Training Department together with the representatives from eight partners of FAO attended the Meeting. The aims of the Meeting were to discuss the Terms of References for the Task Group of Catch Concept and Fishing Effort, review the proposal for revision of catch concept diagram, and propose the amendments on the definitions of catch concepts (e.g. retained catch, discarded catch, bycatch), review the proposed changes on fishing effort definitions, and discuss the additional International Standard Statistical Classification of Fishing Gear (ISSCFG) categories. This matter would be brought for consideration by SEAFDEC and would be accommodated in the future revision of the Regional Framework for Fishery Statistics of Southeast Asia.
