Universitas Sriwijaya, Indonesia, visits SEAFDEC

On 19 January 2026, the SEAFDEC Secretariat welcomed delegates from the Department of Marine Science, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI), Indonesia. The visit aimed to exchange information and explore potential areas of cooperation between UNSRI and SEAFDEC in marine science, fisheries research, and capacity development.

During the visit, SEAFDEC delivered a video presentation introducing the roles and functions of SEAFDEC. The UNSRI delegation then shared its key areas of interest, including marine ecology and pollution including microplastics, marine resources exploration and management, hydroacoustics, geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sensing, oceanography, fisheries biology, and marine economics. Subsequently, SEAFDEC and UNSRI discussed potential avenues for collaboration, such as the exchange of researchers/lecturers, internship opportunities, information exchange, and collaborative research.
