On 1 September 2025, SEAFDEC warmly welcomed academic members from the Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology (TUMSAT), led by Vice President Prof. Masashi Maita, at the SEAFDEC Secretariat in Bangkok, Thailand.
The visit provided an opportunity to discuss potential areas of collaboration, such as internship or short-term training opportunities for TUMSAT students at SEAFDEC, engagement of TUMSAT experts as resource persons in SEAFDEC programs and projects, and possibilities for young SEAFDEC staff to pursue higher education or joint research initiatives at TUMSAT.
Collaboration between TUMSAT and SEAFDEC has been established since 2000, primarily through staff and student exchanges, the sharing of expertise, and academic cooperation in fisheries and marine science. This partnership has been extended every five years, with the most recent collaborative arrangement signed in May 2025.
