SEAFDEC welcomed the Visiting Senior Researcher from the Aquatic Resources Research Institute (ARRI), Chulalongkorn University, Dr. Masahiko Honzawa. On his visit to the SEAFDEC Secretariat in Bangkok, Thailand on 19 December 2025, Dr. Honzawa introduced the concept of the ELTRES network system, which uses Sony’s proprietary wireless communication standard and features stable long-distance communication, high-speed mobile connectivity, and low power consumption. The system comprises transmitter units that can be deployed in the field and transmit signals to receiving stations within a coverage radius of up to 100 km. While the system has potential applications for monitoring marine debris hotspots, as well as for other purposes such as tracking location, water level, and water quality, its practical applicability in the field for different purposes would still require further investigation.
