The SEAFDEC Secretary-General, Ms. Sampan Panjarat, together with the Chief of SEAFDEC/AQD, Mr. Dan D. Baliao, paid a courtesy call to the SEAFDEC Council Director for the Philippines, and the Undersecretary for the Fisheries Department of Agriculture, Ms. Drusila Esther E. Bayate, and officials of SEAFDEC Secretariat and BFAR, on 6 March 2026.
While congratulating Ms. Sampan on her role as SEAFDEC Secretary-General, Ms. Drusila expressed her appreciation to SEAFDEC for the strong collaboration and partnership between SEAFDEC and BFAR in promoting sustainable fisheries and aquaculture in the Southeast Asian region.
On this occasion, Ms. Sampan emphasized that the regional initiatives undertaken by SEAFDEC to support its Member Countries in several areas of fisheries and aquaculture development. She also informed the upcoming SEAFDEC activities, including the 58th Meeting of the SEAFDEC Council, scheduled to be convened in May 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand, and the Regional Workshop on Multispecies and Multigear Fisheries, which will be organized in June 2026, among other events. The meeting also discussed the support of SEAFDEC/AQD to BFAR in several areas of aquaculture development, particularly in capacity-building activities for BFAR officers.
The courtesy call to the SEAFDEC Council Director for the Philippines was a side activity of SEAFDEC following Ms. Sampan’s participation as a PSC member in the 2nd Meeting of the Project Steering Committee on Blue Horizon: Ocean Relief through Seaweed Aquaculture, organized on 5-6 March 2026, in Coron, Palawan, the Philippines.
