On 22 June 2026, the Secretary-General of SEAFDEC, Ms. Sampan Panjarat, paid a courtesy call on the SEAFDEC Council Director for Malaysia and the Director-General of the Department of Fisheries (DOF) Malaysia, Dato’ Adnan bin Hussain, at the DOF Malaysia Headquarters in Putrajaya, Malaysia.
In his warm welcome remarks, Dato’ Adnan expressed appreciation to SEAFDEC and SEAFDEC Departments for their continued role in supporting Malaysia and the region in various areas of fisheries and aquaculture, including research and development, capacity building, regional cooperation on international fisheries-related issues, and implementation of collaborative projects. In response, Ms. Sampan expressed appreciation to the Government of Malaysia for its continued support to SEAFDEC. She also briefly highlighted SEAFDEC’s regional initiatives in support of its Member Countries across various aspects of fisheries and aquaculture development. Taking the opportunity, she also informed the Director-General of the upcoming 60th Anniversary of SEAFDEC, to be celebrated on 19 August 2027 in Bangkok, Thailand.
Furthermore, Ms. Sampan expressed her appreciation for the strong support and collaboration between SEAFDEC and DOF Malaysia, particularly through the contributions of SEAFDEC/MFRDMD in strengthening fisheries resources management and implementing capacity-building activities for the Member Countries. In Closing, both the SEAFDEC Secretary-General and the Director-General of DOF Malaysia reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening future cooperation in fisheries and aquaculture development for the sustainable growth of the sector in the region.
