SEAFDEC conducts In-house Training on Gender Mainstreaming in Fisheries Management

On 9 April 2026, the SEAFDEC Secretariat hosted the Training on Gender Mainstreaming in Fisheries Management for its officers and members of the Regional Fisheries Policy Network (RFPN). The Secretary-General, Ms. Sampan Panjarat opened the Training by emphasizing that respect for diversity and social inclusion are essential, cross-cutting elements for both effective fisheries management and organizational success. She pointed out that this Training reinforces SEAFDEC’s strategy to integrate gender perspectives into regional and national programs. This session therefore moves beyond theory into daily professional application.

The training session equipped officers with the essential knowledge needed to recognize the diverse roles within the fisheries sector and deepened their understanding of gender equality. Beyond theory, the training focused on building practical skills for effective gender mainstreaming through peer-to-peer knowledge exchange among RFPN member countries. Participants applied these concepts by incorporating gender considerations into fisheries management scenarios, which led to the drafting of a gender action plan.
