ASEAN-JICA Workshop on Fishery Products Hygiene and Cold Chain Management

The Marine Fisheries Research Department (MFRD) successfully concluded a four-day “Train-the-Trainer” workshop on Fishery Products Hygiene and Cold Chain Management from 6–9 October 2025. This workshop was conducted under the ASEAN-JICA Food Value Chain (AJFVC) initiative, specifically supporting capacity-building activities for Regional Hygiene Management Systems and ASEAN Regional Guidelines on Cold Chain Management.

The workshop aimed to assess and strengthen hygiene practices across ASEAN Member States (AMSs), focusing on implementing Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), Good Handling Practice (GHP), and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) systems.

Twenty representatives from AMSs participated in the workshop, which combined theoretical lectures with practical site visits to fishery processing facilities. The workshop catered to countries at different stages of implementation, serving as a refresher for those with established systems while providing foundational knowledge for others. A key outcome was the development of tailored, country-specific action plans aligned with their unique circumstances and capabilities, demonstrating strong knowledge transfer and practical application.

The trained participants will now serve as expert trainers in their respective countries, forming a network for seafood hygiene and cold chain management. The successful conclusion of this workshop marks a significant milestone in strengthening regional cooperation on fishery products hygiene and cold chain systems, ultimately enhancing food safety, quality, and the global competitiveness of ASEAN’s fisheries sector.
