On 20 January 2026, a team from the Network of Aquaculture Centres in Asia-Pacific (NACA), led by its Director, Dr. Eduardo M. Leaño, visited the SEAFDEC Secretariat and met with the SEAFDEC Secretary-General, Ms. Sampan Panjarat, Deputy Secretary-General, Mr. Koichi Tahara, and senior staff from the SEAFDEC Secretariat and Training Department. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss and exchange views on potential areas of collaboration. While NACA focuses on promoting sustainable aquaculture in the Asia-Pacific region, SEAFDEC’s mandate covers the sustainable development of fisheries across all sub-sectors in Southeast Asia, with the SEAFDEC Aquaculture Department serving as one of NACA’s Regional Lead Centres. The meeting also served as a platform for both organizations to familiarize themselves with each other’s work programs, which could form the basis for future collaboration and help avoid duplication of efforts.
