SEAFDEC and Chulalongkorn University cooperate on “Antarctic Research” and “Micro Plastic” Research

SEAFDEC represented by the Deputy Secretary-General Dr. Kaoru Ishii and Fishery Oceanographer of the SEAFDEC/TD Ms. Pontipa Lauadnakrob visited the Department of Marine Science of the Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University on 17 August 2017. During the visit, Dr. Ishii met Assoc. Prof. Dr. Voranop Viyakarn, Head of Reef Biology Research Group, and Department of Marine Science, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suchana Chavanich, Deputy Managing Director of Chula Unisearch.

The two parties, Dr. Ishii and Dr. Voranop discussed about future cooperation on the “Antarctic Research” and the “Micro Plastic Research”, which micro plastic debris is dangerous objects that cause harmful impacts to the environment and fishery resources. The discussion was fruitful and came up with a strength relationship and mutual understanding of both institutions.

At the end of visit, SEAFDEC accepted the invitation to join the Polar Science Consortium Thailand (PSCT) which was established by Dr. Voranop.  He is also the present Head of the Research Group in Thailand for Asian Forum for Polar Sciences (AFOPS).
