SEAFCEC staff joins TUMSAT research vessel’s cruise survey in the Antarctic Ocean

The Umitaka-maru of TUMSAT

SEAFDEC and the Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology (TUMSAT) have pursued close and active cooperative relationship for years based on the Arrangement for Academic and Educational Cooperation (concluded in 2004, renewed in 2010 and 2015). This include the conduct of the International Symposium when TUMSAT’s research vessel – the Umitaka-maru – visited SEAFDEC’s Training Department, and provision of scientific advice from TUMSAT to SEAFDEC.

Ms. Pontipa Luadnakrob

Recently, it has been officially decided that as part of such cooperative relationship, a Fishery Oceanographer of SEAFDEC Training Department (TD), Ms. Pontipa Luadnakrob, would participate in the 53rd cruise survey of the Umitaka-maru that includes KARE21 cruise for the Antarctic Ocean from 28 December 2017 to 23 January 2018. During the cruise, Ms. Pontipa would make observations of, and support the Umitaka-maru’s research activities. It is anticipated that her participation in this cruise survey would enhance the experience and capacity of SEADEC and strengthen closer cooperative relationship between SEAFDEC and TUMSAT. This would also secure collaboration between the two organizations in conducting cruise survey activities in the future.
