The “2016 Government of Japan Trust Fund (JTF) Projects Annual Progress and Planning Meeting on the Promotion of Sustainable Aquaculture and Resource Enhancement in Southeast Asia” was organized by SEAFDEC/Aquaculture Department (AQD) at its Tigbauan Main Station in Iloilo, Philippines on 9 February 2017. JTF team from SEAFDEC Secretariat led by Dr. Kaoru Ishii SEAFDEC Deputy Secretary-General and Japanese Trust Fund Project Manager, accompanied by Mr. Isao Koya Assistant Japanese Trust Fund Project Manager, Mr. Tetsuya Kawashima Technical Coordinator, and Ms. Namiko Daitoku attended the Meeting.
Attended by commentators, JFT team from Secretariat, and staff/researchers from AQD, the Meeting reviewed and discussed the achievements and outputs of projects supported by the JTF, as well as on-going research activities and studies conducted in 2016. Subsequently, the project achievements and outputs were evaluated by commentators, namely: Dr. Carlos Baylon from the University of the Philippines in the Visayas, Dr. Joselito Somga from BFAR, Dr. Takuro Shibuno from the National Research Institute of Aquaculture of Japan and former Deputy Chief of AQD, and Dr. Kaoru Ishii from SEAFDEC Secretariat. After the Meeting, the JTF team visited the AQD Igang Marine Station in Guimaras Island and Dumangas Brackishwater Station which is approximately 20 km to the northeast of Iloilo City, to observe the facilities and significant aquaculture commodities such as seahorse, abalone, milkfish, seabass, grouper, seaweed, mud crab, blue swimming crab, shrimp, among others.
