The SEAFDEC-Sweden Project through Sida-facility support and in partnership with Women Organizing for Change in Agriculture and Natural Resource Management (WOCAN) convened the Training Workshop on Gender Analysis in Fisheries Sector for SEAFDEC Gender Working Team (GWT) at SEAFDEC Secretariat in Bangkok, Thailand on 5-8 March 2018. The objective of the workshop was to strengthen the understanding of gender analysis in depth and application of tools and methods for integrating gender concerns within fisheries related research of the GWT. Representatives from Cambodia and Myanmar as well as Regional Fisheries Policy Network (RFPN) members attended the Workshop.
The Workshop started with an overview of key gender issues related to fisheries and the discussion on the rationale for using the gender lens. Participants were engaged in various group exercises and breakout meetings to develop gender analysis survey tools, which were used in collecting data during the field visit. During the workshop, the data was analyzed and interpreted by participants.
Additionally, the capacity and vulnerability assessment tool was introduced and its application in research works related to fisheries, gender, and climate changes was discussed. The participants were also trained on designing gender integrated planning framework, developing monitoring and evaluation mechanisms using gender sensitive indicators, and assessing external and internal risks while planning. These activities make a great deal of understanding in the integrating gender issues and the gender analysis in the research and development cycle.
